Meg Kennedy resigns as principal of Holy Childhood School

With a sad heart, the Holy Childhood School received a notice of resignation from our principal, Mrs. Meg Kennedy. She will remain with the school until 31st of December 2022.

Mrs. Meg Kennedy was appointed as principal of Holy Childhood School in Eshowe in 2012. Since then, she has led the school with exceptional skill, complete commitment and genuine love for each and every child under her care. She advised the governing body of HCS of her intentions and handed in her formal notice of resignation in June 2021. The interests of the school remain Mrs. Kennedy’s priority, and as such she has devised an exit strategy to allow the school to identify a suitable replacement timeously and to facilitate a smooth transition during 2022. She also agreed in assisting the government body to find a suitable successor who will continue to live up to the mission of our school, based on the values of the Roman Catholic Church.

During Mrs. Kennedy’s time as principal, Holy Childhood School evolved into a successful primary school with more than 280 learners, covering preschool level from Grade 000 to Grade R and primary level from Grade 1 to Grade 7. As a member of ISASA, the Independent Schools Association of South Africa, HCS offers learners quality education as an independent and non-governmental school. It is continuously evaluated and certified by the Independent Quality Assurance Agency (IQAA).

Great achievements

In addition to her outstanding work surrounding daily school life, Mrs. Kennedy has started many important initiatives to secure the school’s future. In 2019, she facilitated the introduction of the first remedial centre in Eshowe – The Marc Gehren Learning Centre. The school is currently able to assist selected Grade 1 to 3 pupils with necessary Remedial Education, Occupational and Speech Therapy. The introduction of a STEAM classroom in 2021 – a practical approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics – also falls under her time as principal. In addition to this, Mrs. Kennedy started successful fundraising initiatives organized by a committee of parents and friends of Holy Childhood School. The biggest event of the year is the annually Ngoje Trail Run, which has become a widely recognized sports event for the entire KZN running community. Other initiatives include the annual HCS Golf Day or the sale of HCS memorabilia for fundraising purposes.

Mrs. Kennedy’s resignation was met with consternation by staff, parents and learners. She will be sorely missed.
