St. Joseph Child & Youth Care Center Mbongolwane was founded by our congregation in 1988. Three of our sisters decided to build a home for abused, neglected and orphaned children from the area. It provides a safe environment for up to 30 children between the age of 0 and 12 years. It is located in Mbongolwane, a rural town in the South African bush and 45 Minutes from Eshowe.
In more than 25 years of work, hundreds of disadvantaged girls and boys – often HIV positive – have found a substitute family with sisters and careworkers, who look after “their” children 24 hours a day. Project founders were Holy Childhood Sisters Reginarda, Lucella, Gottlinde and Elkana.
In 2014, St. Joseph Children’s Home was newly renovated and officially recognized as a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO Number: 028-791-NPO). Since then, it operates under its new name St. Joseph Child and Youth Care Center.
