As a novice, sisters wear the religious habit for the first time. The novitiate helps them to grow into the spirituality and life of the community, familiarize themselves with the rules and constitutions and prepare for a life according to the vows. This part of the education usually takes two years.
Novices learn under the guidance of the directress of novices. The first twelve months of the canonical year must be spent in the novitiate community. In the second, non-canonical year, the novice does her practicals (working within the congregation) and familiarizes herself with community’s way of life, its spiritual life and the apostolate committed to the congregation.
