The Region of St. Clare had its thirteenth Chapter in December 2019. All the sisters came together to discuss the well being and future of the region and voted for a new leadership.
The sisters of the Region of St. Clare came together for their Regional Chapter in Eshowe. The General Superior, Sr. Katharina Ganz, traveled from the motherhouse in Oberzell to attend. The Councilor of the Generalate, Sr. Antonia Cooper from America, was also present. Furthermore, every chapter needs a moderator from outside the congregation. For that, the Sisters invited Sr. Maureen from America who belongs to a Franciscan order.
Sr. Assumpta Hadebe was reappointed as Regional Superior, Sr. Teressa Zungu was elected as Vicaress and first Councillor, Sr. Marwiga Schenk as second Councillor and Sr. Bongiwe Xulu as third Councillor. Sr. Liboria Ehler was again appointed as Regional Economist.
A regional chapter is the highest decision making authority in the region. It is convened every three years by the general superior – Sr. Katharina Ganz – with the consent of her council. It is held as a chapter of election and business. The duties of the chapter is to review the life and ministry of a region in the context of our Rule and Constitutions and to adapt them accordingly, to discuss and decide of regional matters and to appoint the regional superior and appoint the regional council.
