Rest in peace, Sr. Dolores

Sr. Dolores was an integral part of the Holy Childhood Sisters in South Africa for more than sixty years. At the end of February, the sad news of her passing reached her fellow sisters in South Africa.

On February 25th, Sr. Dolores went home to the Lord at her mother convent in Oberzell, Germany. Sr. Dolores was an integral part of the Holy Childhood Sisters’ community in South Africa for 62 years. She arrived in Eshowe in January 1955 as part of the first group of German sisters living and working in Zululand. She then went on to study music, graduating in 1962 with an Oxford Trinity College Diploma. At Holy Childhood Convent School, she took op the position of Class Music Teacher, while offering individual music lessons on the side. She saw many learners through their Trinity Music exams – past pupils and parents fondly remember her Orff instrument Band and choir presentations she put together. One of her favourite pastimes was to identify the naughtiest boy at school and put him on the drums. In 2017, Sr. Dolores returned to the Mother House in Oberzell due to health problems. During her last years, she stayed at the Franziskushaus in Oberzell in the midst of her fellow sisters in Germany.

“We were all very sad to receive the news of Sr. Dolores´ passing”, says Regional Superior Sr. Assumpta Hadebe. “Sr. Dolores was a very important part of our congregation in South Africa for many years. She will remain in our hearts forever.”
