Young people are the future of South Africa. Therefore, we strive to assist them in coping with their daily challenges so they can reach their full potential. One of our sisters, Sr. Crossantia Mkhize, is studying Child and Youth Care at university. As part of her studies, she started a youth work project in Durban for her practicals.
Creating safe spaces
In this project, working with young people means meeting them in their residential settings: schools, families and communities. The young adults voluntarily come in to have a talk or exchange information. To be able to help them, it is very important to create a safe space or environment, where they feel free to share any challenge they may be facing. They must also be open to the help offered. Therefore, we work hand in hand with nurses/doctors, teachers, psychologists and social workers.
